For more than two decades, Asanti Dance Theatre has been sharing the vibrant traditions, stories and artistic expressions of West Africa through performance, education and cultural exchange.
Founded by Ghanaian artist and cultural leader Appiah Annan, Asanti Dance Theatre began with a simple vision: to celebrate African culture, create opportunities for artists and build meaningful connections between people through music, dance and storytelling.
What started as a small group of young artists training together on the beaches of Ghana has grown into an internationally recognised arts organisation that connects communities across Africa and Australia through powerful cultural experiences.
From Ghana to Australia
Established in Ghana in 2003, Asanti Dance Theatre was created to preserve and promote the rich traditions of African music, dance and culture while providing pathways for emerging artists.
Rooted in the cultural traditions of West Africa, the company quickly developed a reputation for dynamic performances, innovative collaborations and community engagement programs that celebrated both traditional and contemporary African artistic expression.
When founder Appiah Annan relocated to Australia in 2007, he brought with him a passion for cultural exchange and a vision to create opportunities for Australians to experience the richness and diversity of African arts and culture.
Today, Asanti Dance Theatre operates across Australia and Ghana, connecting artists, audiences and communities through performance, education and creative collaboration.
